My Dance Journey
I started taking tap and jazz dance lessons from Betsy Kaye Finch, who turns 90 this year, a former Broadway Equity Actress & Dancer, in Lakeland, FL when I was 7 years old. I loved watching MGM movie musicals, Solid Gold, Soul Train, American Bandstand, Lawrence Welk show, Bob Fosse Dance Concerts, Jackson Five, In Living Color's Fly Girls, MTV and VH1. I would often challenge myself to pick up the dance steps by the end of the show. As a teenager, I was part of the Anchorette Dance & Drill Team at my high school, where I won ribbons for High Kick Performance and was 2nd Runner-up in the Miss Florida Drill Team Competition.
Inspired by my mom's lost dream of becoming a tap dancer, I kept training, teaching, and dancing professionally into a successful dance and choreography career. I spent 18+ years as an Entertainment Choreographer, Professional Dancer, and Stage Manager in Central Florida, working for Disney/MGM Studios, SeaWorld, Cypress Gardens, Boardwalk & Baseball, Miss Florida Teen & USA Pageants, Community Theatres, Ballet Companies, Performing Arts High Schools, and Universities.
Some shows I have choreographed include: Pippin, West Side Story, 42nd Street, The King & I, Anything Goes, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Nunsense, Godspell, Cabaret, The Full Monty, and two Live Sesame Street Shows for SeaWorld.
Shows I have danced professionally include: Colorado Riders at Boardwalk & Baseball, More Than Magic at Cypress Gardens, Here Come the Muppets at Disney/MGM Studios, and the Dinosaur Parade at Disney/MGM Studios.
Shows & Parades as a Staging Assistant for Walt Disney World include: Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin Parade, Muppets 3D Movie, The Muppet Show, Toy Story Parade, and The Little Mermaid.
I completed a BS in Business Administration and a BA in Modern Dance from the University of South Florida in Tampa. I received an Award for Excellence in Choreography and other Dance Scholarships from the USF Dance Department.
I was introduced to Pilates for Dance, Massage Therapy, and Dance Kinesiology, as a university student and went on to train and certify as a Licensed Massage Therapist in FL and CO, a Pilates Post-Rehab Practitioner with Polestar Pilates, a Reiki Master with The Illuminators, and an Essential Oils Distributor with Young Living. I have taken courses in Advanced Spine, Pathokinesiology, Neuromuscular & Myofascial Release, Raindrop Technique, Emotional Release with Essential Oils, and Somatic Archaeology. I ran my own private practice, rehabilitating, energy coaching, and nurturing clients for the last 18+ years.
As I turn 50, I am excited to be returning to my roots and first love as a Dancer and Choreographer by performing locally and creating the Boogie Shoes Dance Program! A dream come true.
I have been performing with One Big Yes Productions in Boulder since 2004, directed by Nancy Cranbourne. I have also performed in two cabaret shows with New Breed Dance Company in Boulder, directed by Linzee Klinkenberg, and recently Stage Managed for Art as Action's annual performance at the Broomfield Auditorium.
I have also helped to launch Broomfield's first Community Theatre recently, the Broomfield Community Players! Theatre is close to my heart, having spent 25+ years dancing and choreographing for theatre. It was a safe-haven for me as a young artist and helped to build my chops as a Professional Entertainment Choreographer. I have many successful friends in the business today and we all got our start in community theatre.
I taught Ageless Movement classes at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities for 8 years, combined, as my service to the community. I adore my ageless ladies and love keeping them moving with joy in a supportive community!
I am an artist and nature lover, and I hope to spend the second half of my life in creative and spiritual bliss, writing, dancing, speaking, coaching, traveling, and supporting other artists in "freeing up" their creative spirits so that everyone can live a joy-filled, meaningful, and prosperous life!
I am thrilled to share my joy of dance with Estes Park and the surrounding areas, through my Boogie Shoes Ageless & Adult Dance Classes, Informal Showings, Local Events, and eventually regular Dance/Music/Video/Art Concerts!
